Session Title: From Local to International: Investing in Integrity and Financing for Climate Justice
Time: 20th November (Thursday), 9:30-11:00 (1h30min)
Venue: UNFCCC COP30 Green Zone — Booth No.58 (Name: STUF United Pavilion “Sustainability in Action”)
Platform: Live broadcast on Facebook, Online+In-person Hybrid Speakers
Language: Mandarin (the target audience is the civil society and financial institution in Taiwan)
Overview:
As the climate crisis deepens, ensuring integrity in profit-driven businesses and justice in the global climate finance landscape has become more urgent than ever.
This session explores how activists and stakeholders in different local or international organizations view the challenges of current climate finance mechanisms, and what is needed to pivot the current finance into equity, transparency, and accountability.
By connecting grassroots experiences with global financial frameworks, we’ll discuss how the design of investments and funding mechanisms can truly support climate-vulnerable communities, build resilience, and uphold climate justice.
Guiding Questions:
- As the “Baku to Belém Roadmap” aims to mobilize $1.3 trillion in annual external climate finance for developing countries by 2035, it details how to achieve this through a combination of public and private investment, reforms to the international financial system, and new sources of funding. What is the progress at COP30?
- Finance is one of the most important pillars under the UNFCCC. There are multiple stakeholders participating in the COPs. What is the strategy of the international and/or regional institutes to support climate action and economic development by addressing the rising costs of mitigation, adaptation, loss, and damage?
- The first global stocktake at COP28 made the decision to transition away from fossil fuels. As we pursue climate justice, fossil fuels phaseout is on the priority of the agenda. What are the NGO’s advocacy for the financial institution?
- Taiwan has announced its NDC 3.0 before COP30, supported with green finance and transition finance policies. Is there any reference or takeaways from COP30 to strengthen Taiwan’s action of investing in integrity and financing for climate justice?
